Jon says:
‘The LRB’s London A to Z diary for 2025 was particularly delightful (and challenging) to work on.
After studying a wide range of maps of London (from Victorian engravings to mid-century lithographs to Google Maps) we set about trying to find a scale and a style that would let us feature as many locations from the diary as possible.
I painted the final map at a small scale using a brush and Indian ink, trying to capture something of the character and texture of the varied regions of the city, within the limitations of my brush (and my eyesight).
I loved getting lost in this for the days it took me to complete, and hope it is as fun to wander around with your eyes as it was to wander around with my brush.’
